Traditional martial art Grandmaster Joël Castillo, who grew up in San Francisco’s Chinatown, not only had an affinity for Gung Fu, but also dancing in night clubs in his early 20’s. The club’s bouncers became his students & eventually his best friends. Only drinking water & keeping a watchful eye over them at the door from the dance floor, Grandmaster Joel Castillo was involved in 100’s of real street altercations over the years. Throughout these experiences he has completely understood what footwear works and doesn’t work in REAL LIFE street fighting situations

Grandmaster Joel Castillo was introduced to Alexander Gross, a former NASA rocket scientist who was responsible for designing the space suit for the Apollo 11 Lunar landing. He also designed many iconic athletic shoes for the biggest brands in the world & even world champion boxer Mike Tyson! Joel knew he was the man to design the ultimate martial art shoe for daily use. Alexander Gross took the challenge & they formed TALÓN FOOTWEAR - “IN HONOR OF DEDICATED MARTIAL ARTISTS”! This is our company’s MANTRA!! • Our new "Last", the shape of the form from which the shoe is constructed, is the first ever built from foot morphology studies gleaned specifically during martial arts fights. This Last provides the optimum stance for competition, or a street fight! It is shaped for “the foot in sand” position.
• Our shoe upper shaping provides a more secure fit than ever before as it both protects and amplifies the power of the foot in action. It is a new hybrid design for martial arts, a mid-cut height with a glove wrap fit for the toes and a snug heel counter.
• Our upper material choice is “Stealth leather”, unquestionably strongest for use in sports! It provides non-stretch support for all joints and the 26 bones of the foot as it outlasts any other material. 
• Upper reinforcements are also strategically located at all wear areas noticed on other martial arts shoes produced by our competitors. These prevent blowout, toenail cut through, and kick abrasion spots during use.
• Upper also includes a click-in fit which locks the foot into fighting position. Also a firm toe box is specifically designed for kicking power enhancement.
• Comfort is provided within the upper by a wick dry lining, a removable customizable footbed, an achilles tendon pad and a snug ankle collar both filled with memory foam, and a thin layer of impact foam on the instep of the foot.
• Elastic fit provisions are provided to eliminate the need for laces on the upper.
• The shaping ( styling ) of the upper represents a stealth fighting machine……choose your weapon!! The sleek silhouette tapers into a killer toe box!
• High jumping during kicks is cushioned by an industry first asymmetrical midsole which helps to prevent arch collapse at landing as well as self -centering support to maintain/regain balance.
• The custom outer-sole is which we refer to as "GROUND ZERO" is constructed of a new blend of ultra-high abrasion resistant rubber never before used in martial arts footwear. It contains provisions for Tri-Axis pivoting at 3 different locations on the outsole, toes, ball, and heel. It also provides "center of pressure cushioning" beneath the heel. Combined with herringbone shaped skid grip traction, and smooth rounded kicking surfaces all around the periphery. The sidewalls are also textured for traction on edges as the foot rolls into action. It is nimble, & non-marking with the traction of a gecko!
• The color is a stealthy smooth dull finish for smooth aerodynamic kicking. Its non-reflecting radar absorbing airfoil is inspired by the SR 71 Blackbird!
